I am adding links to this page, a few at a time. A
mix of friends and business associates. Hopefully
we can help each other.
A Rock and roll museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi? Yes. Theo and Cindy
moved their museum from his native Holland to this small town. Take the
drive down Highway 61 from Memphis and see their fabulous collection.
They even have a desk from Elvis' junior high school.
Jenny and Glen moved from England to the Memphis area. They found 20
acres of land and decided to create a rock and roll themed bed and
breakfast. A brave move. Located just ten miles from Graceland, they
call it Gracelanpines. Send them an email.
No one has done more to help me in this business and as a friend as
Henrik Knudsen of Elvis Unlimited. Elvis Unlimited publishes books,
DVDs. CDs. and creates very good live shows both in Europe and in the
USA.
Glen Rosenberry publishes the Downtown Merchant Guide that is free
to all. Inside are maps, helpful suggestions and information about
many downtown businesses in Memphis.
Some people I know are not from Memphis, nor are they involved in my
tour business. But I enjoyed their company so much, that I am putting
their link here. Brenda Linton is a singer songwriter from North Carolina.
Susan Graham helped create a film documentary describing Elvis' good
deeds and gifts to others called 200 Cadillacs. It's theme is very
similar to my book the Best of Elvis.
Westy'sCarriage Company of Memphis offers horse and buggy tours. Call
901-507-2587 or 1-877-589-1812 for your tour. Owner Jake Schorr started
one of the first carriage tours in Memphis in 1980. He also owns Westy's
restaurant at 346 North Main. If you are looking for a quiet place, this is it.
Westy's is on the north side of downtown away from the noise of Beale
Strret. Convenient to the convention Center and St. Jude's Childrens
Hospital, they also delivery to downtown hotels.
You cannot come to Memphis without visiting the Lanksy's Mens Shop.
Bernard Lanksy still works every day, as he did over 50 years ago. If you
plan to visit with him, go early as he does not work a long day anymore. He
is 81. And try to see him before the Walk of the Peabody Ducks brings a
mob into his store. Never heard of the Peabody ducks? Click here to find
out.
My friend Anna Hamilton operated Anna's Steakhouse for years. She
filled her restaurant walls with memorabilia from Humes High School and
of Elvis. Anna was a greaduate of Humes, but not at the same time as
Elvis. When Anna closed her restaurant in 2006, she had no where to
store her collection of Humes High and Elvis items. Then she met Jimmy
Silvio who was opening a new place at 159 Beale, the Superior Bar of
Memphis. Jimmy offered to display her collection. Today you can enjoy
Superior's great menu, nightitme entertainment, and the Humes High
collection.
Inside the original Lansky building at Second and Beale is an Elvis gift
shop operated by a Japanese company, Love Me Tender. Why not?
They have a great line of clothing called Memphis Flash which is very
similar to what Elvis wore. They carry a wide assortment of gift items,
and Elvis' music. Go in there to see their framed images of Elvis in
the 1950's in downtown Memphis. Remeber Sato and Debbi fom the
Memories of Elvis shop, they are now working here.
On the other hand, my friends at the D and N Fan Club have done just as
much to help me in the last six or seven years. First as promoters and
organizers of our tours and events. Someday I will have to post photos of
our old pool parties. lately, they have been moral boosters. Visit their
site and ask them how they created their club name.
An Elvis Festival in Michigan? Sure, anywhere where enough Elvis fans
gather is an appropriate site for a Fest. After the tremendous success of
the Collingwood Festival in Canada, many other festivals pooped up
everywhere. Like that event, the Michigan Elvis Festival is an Elvis
Tribute Artists contest and a preliminary round to the final contest held
during Elvis Week, Memphis. I like this festival because it is twenty
miles from my mother's hometown, Howell, and sixty miles from my
dad's, Lansing.
I have been linked to the Elvis Directory of websites in the UK courtesy of Carol
Rixon. It fits, because so many of my friends and customers are from the UK>
This website is a collection of websites and a good research tool for anyone
curious about the Elvis Presley "world."
Edwin van der Veen has put together an extensive website on Elvis' music, the guitar tabs and chords for
the songs. He is one of many Europeans who have done extensive research on the life and career of Elvis
Presley. His site is called Elvis Presley Tabs and chords.
Sadly, the
Love Me
Tender
shop has
closed.
